Literally. Did the horseback riding this morning which was really good. Up until the point where I fell off it which wasn't that great, but I was brave and went back up. It was a 2 hour ride through the Kaiteke Valley, which is a bit away from where the lodge we're really staying at. There's some beautiful scenery along there, and we saw some wapiti (elk/deer like animals) along the way which was cool.
Having a bit of trouble taking out cash ehre though. We werent expecting to need any, as the Tongariro Crossing is meant to be the only thing requiring cash in the area, and we're now running into a problem where neither credit cards nor foreign debit cards will work on taking out cash.
Other issue of the day is that the plane ride is a no go. They didnt call back to reception to confirm, and turns out that their one departure would have been at 11 when I was out on the horseback ride. The weather has turned for the worse now, so you can't even really see the mountain properly. One more thing to do on another trip to this part of the world. Or maybe when I get back Ill be fit enough to go for the crossing? Or even better, rich enough to book the private helicopter rides.
Anyways, just in the lodge at the moment watching the tail end of Return of the King. Will grab a quick bite to eat and then head off to the hot tub to relax. Hoping to just unwind for the rest of the day. I've been trying to cram as much as possible into this part of my trip, rather than pacing myself. I still have almost a month to go, so should maybe start slowing down a bit.
