Landed in Hong Kong an hour early. The flight went well - only thing out of the ordinary was when someone started having a tantrum over it being too cold. Sadly, just about everything is closed - the only 24hr shops seem to be outside the security zone - and while I do want to head to the 7-11 to buy a sim card, I don't need one so badly that I'd want to go through security more than necessary. There's a starbucks open somewhere (I've seen people with cups) but I've already had way too much coffee/tea on the plane. Though I will have to remember to try this frappucino with jelly they're advertising. Im told that the other restauratns should open within the hour, and the stores in the hour after that.
I explored a little, and am now holed up in one of the 'relaxation lounges' - I'm due to be here 5 more times over the course of my trip, so getting the lay of the land now would be good, while it's all nice and empty. The plan is to sit here till my laptop gives out, then head to one of the 'charging stations'.
Atleast there's free wifi an the chairs are comfy. Another 4 hours to go waiting for my connection in Sydney. Wil spend pretty much all of today in transit, arriving in Sydney in the evening.
I think I might like blogging. It replaces my hard copy journalling, and merges it with my incessant need to be connected to the internet whilst travelling :)
Update: just got an email about chairing one of the sessions Ill be presenting in next week. Which is both exciting and a wee bit worrisome - some of the task descriptions they sent are alarmingly vague. Also, layering already coming in handy. While the plane was chilly, Hong Kong and the airport are kinda hot.
Update 2: turns out that 'charging station' was code for outlet at bottom of display thing. currently sitting on the floor.
